Music Video Post #10: "Creep" Final Edits

Image
Final Music Video  Feedback: Some shaky camera movements where there did not necessarily have to be Song lines up well with story and lip-syncing Ellis breaks character often; in the future, we will have to focus more on acting and making sure that what we want to convey is being conveyed Very humorous, although the story was supposed to be more sad

Music Video Post #9: Convention Analysis

Image
What Conventions Were Used Alternative Rock music videos typically show a band or singer singing/playing the song physically while the song is heard on the screen at the same time. In an effort to model the quality of the late 90s and early 2000s' graphics, we utilized lightning stock videos to show Ellis being cursed onscreen. It is reminiscent of videos like The Offspring's where the editing technology was much less advanced. We incorporated a romance plot along with the physical singing of the song. The plot of the story lines up with the story told in the song "Creep," where Ellis is isolated due to her being green but tries to find love despite this.

Music Video Post #6: Location Scouting & Props/Costumes

Image
Locations 1. Garage 2. My house 3. The park Costumes Considering Ellis is Green, we will be using green face paint to convey this to the audience. She wears long sleeves and a turtleneck to cover up much of the green (and to save us the pain of putting it on a lot of skin) The palette used for Ellis's makeup Livi will wear casual clothes

Music Video Post #3: Concept & Storyline

Music Video Concept Goal: To incorporate traditional music video elements (ie. band playing, etc) while also having a plot that viewers can follow that can be attributed to the music itself Inspired by music videos by Pierce the Veil, Chappell Roan Rough Outline Ellis wakes up one day- she’s green People are extremely annoyed that she’s green Witch curses Ellis to be green until she finds her one true love She meets Livi- loves green people Ellis and Livi hold hands, Ellis becomes purified and turns normal Livi runs out Ellis has a Casual-style crashout Ellis turns green again She walks back into the dark room

Music Video Post #2: Representations & Stereotypes

Image
Stereotypes of rock music videos Tend to focus on the performance of the band itself, showcasing the musicality and musicians Have low-key lighting to convey a more gritty atmosphere Clothing can range from casual to more performance, or fitting of a specific time period Some alternative music videos can have extreme costumes and makeup May have other extreme elements, like pyro and weapons Examples "Famous Last Words" by My Chemical Romance music video Fire used in the music video Black makeup, black parade suits - band members are also actors Showcases the band and singer as well as the background "Rock Show" by Blink-182 music video Extreme fisheye Dimly lit environment Showcases the band and singer Rock music is considered gritty and often darker than most pop songs, and alternative rock often seeks to expand these conventions, incorporating experimental elements. In a song like "Creep," we will seek to incorporate both band performance as well as s...

Music Video Post #1: Case Studies

Image
The song "Creep" is alternative rock. We analyzed various other alternative rock songs to see what conventions they utilized to create music videos. 1. "Floral and Fading" by Pierce the Veil PTV uses a live band throughout the music video in tandem with a running storyline The band is a part of the story itself Color grading and time-specific costumes and setting creates a nostalgic feel, which is broken once the fire alarm goes off and everything goes to chaos 2. "Casual" by Chappell Roan While not an alternative rock song, the video contains a lot of interesting elements we'd like to emulate in our music video Color grading and costumes create a cozy, coastal theme that contrasts the heartbreaking storyline Differently to the "Floral and Fading" music video, there is a much clearer and more consistent plot that the two leads follow
