Music Video Post #1: Case Studies

 The song "Creep" is alternative rock. We analyzed various other alternative rock songs to see what conventions they utilized to create music videos.


1. "Floral and Fading" by Pierce the Veil


  • PTV uses a live band throughout the music video in tandem with a running storyline
  • The band is a part of the story itself
  • Color grading and time-specific costumes and setting creates a nostalgic feel, which is broken once the fire alarm goes off and everything goes to chaos

2. "Casual" by Chappell Roan
  • While not an alternative rock song, the video contains a lot of interesting elements we'd like to emulate in our music video
  • Color grading and costumes create a cozy, coastal theme that contrasts the heartbreaking storyline
  • Differently to the "Floral and Fading" music video, there is a much clearer and more consistent plot that the two leads follow
